Longines Timing System – Royal Ascot Day Four Highlights
Golden highway for Kirby
Golden Horde finished strongest of all in The Commonwealth Cup to land his first Group 1 under Adam Kirby. He was prominent throughout the race behind the strong pace set by Mums Tipple before picking up the leader and finished strongest of all with his final two furlongs the quickest in the field at 24.79s compared to 24.96s from Kimari in second and 25.16s from the third horse Ventura Rebel.
Jet flies for Murphy
The Lir Jet followed in the footsteps of his father, Prince Of Lir, when winning The Group 2 Norfolk Stakes. Prince Of Lir never ran over further than five-furlongs but The Lir Jet’s performance hinted that he may get at least an extra furlong after finishing so strongly. He was quicker than any other runner over each of the last three furlongs, running a final split of 12.52s to pip Golden Pal close home. The American raider had showed blistering early pace hitting 41.1mph early in the race but his final split was 0.35s slower than the winner, a difference of around two lengths.
